Punkin's Ponderings
What's in Punkin's Ponderings?
What's Happening At Punkin's House
Rain! Woohoo! Finally we have rain and cooler temperatures (80's). This is a departure from the usual hot, dry August weather. I'm not putting all my summer clothes away yet, though I wish I could. Sigh! I really dislike hot summers.
Mark it still experiencing pain in his shoulder and is now having problems with his left knee. He'll be seeing doctors on both counts in the coming weeks. Not much else going on around here.

Punkin's Movie Picks
I am a child of the television era. The television and the cinema provide a great way to escape the cares of the world. That is why I tend to prefer movies that are far removed from real life. I have watched very few dramas in my life, and they do have their place, but give me fantasy anytime. The only genre of film that I do not like is horror. Oh, I like the old fashioned horror movies, but horror nowadays just tend to be a bit gory and nightmarish for me.
As I was thinking about what to write for this little space in the patch, I tried to remember my all-time favorite movies. The list grew and grew, until I realized there was no-way I'd have enough room to list them all, therefore, I've narrowed it down to my top 11 favorites. Here they are in no particular order: Big Trouble in Little China, Buckaroo Bonsai, Moonstruck, The Fifth Element, Vibes, Labyrinth, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Lara Croft - Tomb Raider, The 10th Kingdom and Romancing the Stone, Howl's Moving Castle; Enchanted.
Recently viewed movies:
Enchanted - **** Loved, loved, loved this one so much we bought it!
National Treasure: Book of Secrets - **** Every bit as good as the first. I'll be adding it to my collection.
Alvin and The Chipmunks - ** Cute movie, but definately a renter only.

The Spiderwick Chronicles - ***Good special effects and pretty good story.

Arthur and the Invisibles - ***Cute movie. Wouldn't mind seeing it again, but not a keeper.
Nim's Island - **Slow story line - would have liked to have seen more of Gerard Butler and better development of Jodie Foster's character interaction with Alex Rover.
Because I Said So - ****Loved this movie, though I've probably had it on this list before, it is worth repeating. I'll eventually add it to my collection.

Punkin's Musings
We've been discussing family vacations at work. With all the happy memories of vacations in the past, I got to thinking that this has been something missing in my life for quite a while. It has been a long, long time since Mark and I planned a vacation. I blame the economy and the fact that Mark doesn't travel well anymore. I really do miss the excitement of planning and packing. Of course, most of our vacations usually are spent with friends or family. I placed the picture of me from the hike in the rainforest at Mt. Rainier on this page because that vacation was a good one for us. I don't know all the reasons why we haven't taken a long vacation for a while, but I think we are over due for one. One of my co-workers said that the "new" thing to do is "staycations". The word implying that more people are opting to stay at home when they take vacation time from work. I can understand that sometimes it is good to take time off to putter around the house and that this type of vacation may be more restful, but I believe we need to get away too. This year, Mark and I plan to take a drive through Texas (if the gas prices don't get too outrageous). I've been collecting brochures and travel guide books from several places to the south of us. Several of our friends have recommended a drive through the Hill Country, down around Gruen and Brenham (yay - Blue Bell Ice Cream) and I've always wanted to go to Corpus Christi. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my plans will come to fruition, because I think we need a REAL vacation. ~Punkin 6/29/08

My Journey
Returning to the kitchen has given a bit of my old self back to me. I've also felt better about myself than I have in a good long while because of my friends at the Dimensions Community. We also have a new preacher here in Clyde. He is originally from India and he has such a fresh perspective on things. I have opened myself to some new friends and I feel my journey will take a new turn soon. Perhaps I'm finally getting closer to coming to terms with my body and my spirit. ~Punkin 5/25/2008
